THE PALACE
AND OUR HISTORY
FROM DUKE GIUSEPPE VIALE TO THE GAMBETTA FAMILY
THE RENEWAL OF ACCOMMODATION AND CAFÉ STRUCTURE
THE B&B AND THE CAFÉ: AN ALL-FEMALE RECOVERY PROJECT
Katia Gambetta and Alessia Boero , mother and daughter, are the talking heads of this ambitious redevelopment and life project, as well as owners of the Palazzo. An all-female project that starts from the family history and from the desire to transform and make the spaces of the building usable after a careful renovation of the rooms.
A receptive part managed by Katia and a new reality managed by Alessia that is a café of relevance between aperitifs and cold table, with a spectacular terrace on the ground floor with access from the porch.
THE GAMBETTA FAMILY
The history of the family undoubtedly starts with Carlo Gambetta and Lina Ansaldo, grandparents of Katia, who bought Palazzo Del Duca from the owner Giuseppe Viale around the end of the 1800s on Lina's strong desire and entrepreneurial spirit. From here until today it was the family's exclusive home. They were succeeded by their children Lucia Gambetta and Michele Gambetta, father of Katia and Commander of cruise and merchant ships who together with his wife Francesca (called Franca) Aicardi dedicated and spent many sacrifices for the maintenance, care and improvements of the building.
It is only with Katia that Palazzo del Duca is transformed and finally opened to the public as an accommodation facility, and a café with her daughter Alessia.
THE HISTORY OF THE PALAZZO AND THE VILLAGE
THE CITY AND ITS PALACE
The Plan of CERVO, a town on the Riviera di Ponente Ligure, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, can be depicted as a large leaf of which the ascent to the Castle represents the stem, and the streets of the ancient village the ribs. For this reason, the ascent or "montà" is always the most popular, being the only comfortable road that leads straight from the Via Aurelia to the heart of the Borgo.
Taking the parallel street Degli Ulivi we will find ourselves right on Via Pellico, where a 19th century palace and the PALAZZO DEL DUCA rise above an artistic PORTICO. Under the beautiful portico a great SELCIATO in SMALL SEA PEBBLES indicates the perfection achieved in this type of flooring in the 19th century.
THE PROPERTY
In ancient times the palace belonged to Giuseppe Viale known as "Duca", a title that the people had bestowed upon him for his particular austere elegance that distinguished him. After having squandered his last riches in the construction of a villa on the heights of Cervo, even in the straits in which he had found himself, he sold the palace to Carlo GAMBETTA who was instead the historic family who lived, renovated and kept the palace alive today, transformed into a highly suggestive accommodation facility.
THE PECULIARITIES
The gems of this historic residence are different, but the real highlight is undoubtedly the ancient BELVEDERE in wrought iron, where you can admire a breathtaking view of the city and the entire Dianese Gulf.
The high belvedere is accessed by means of a sturdy cast iron staircase, which rises from the B&B to reach the top of the roofs of Via Grimaldi Salineri, the highest in the country. In fact, our customers will be lucky enough to be able to enjoy this beauty, the particularity of the Cervo's roofs, the sunny terraces, the characteristic chimneys and the luminous arch on the horizon that unites Capo Berta and Capo Cervo, forming the enchanting Gulf.
THE INTERIORS of the Palazzo are still original, RESTORED over time and brought to light by the Gambetta family: they make up a truly suggestive artistic apparatus. The FRESCOES of the vaults present in the Duke's Chamber and in the Apartment date back to 1800.
